Failure to Return Borrowed Materials

Failure to return borrowed books and related materials on due date.

Sanction:

General Collection: Fine of $0.50 per day until book is returned
Special Reference Collection: Hourly charge of $1.00 plus loss of borrowing facilities until books returned

Loss or Misplacement of Materials

Loss or misplacement of books and related materials.

Sanction:

Offender will pay twice the current price of the book including shipping and handling charges, plus a processing charge of GH₡ 100.00.

Unlawful Acquisition / Stealing

Unlawful acquisition of library materials / stealing.

Sanction:

Ordinary books: Rustication for 21 days. In addition, the member shall lose borrowing rights for one semester.
Reference books: As above plus possible dismissal.
Rare books: Dismissal.

Mutilation of Materials

Mutilation of books and related materials.

Sanction:

A member who commits this offence shall be dismissed from the university.

Failure to Return on Demand

Failure to return books and other materials on demand (when a book is recalled).

Sanction:

Suspension from the University plus any overdue fines.

Note: For faculty members who commit any of the above offenses, a report shall be made to the Vice-Chancellor and the registrar for appropriate sanctions. For non-university staff, use of the library will be denied plus other appropriate sanctions.

General Rules Violation

With regard to the General Rules of the Library Regulation, the flouting of any of them could result in imposing appropriate sanctions on the offender(s), including the suspension of the use of the library.

Additional Library Policies

Reserved Books

Books recommended by lecturers to their students are removed from the shelves and kept behind the circulation desk. Such books are available for use in the library only.

A reader must return books borrowed from the reserved collection to the assistant at the counter before leaving the library.

Books Used in the Library

Books should be left at the reading tables. Readers should not attempt to shelve any book after use.

User Education

User education in the library takes the form of introducing new students to the resources of the library at the start of a new academic year.

Familiarizing users with library resources to develop information seeking skills
Educating users on finding materials manually or electronically using OPAC
Training on using other library tools and resources
